This is a stag night, a german tradition which is based on the old saying "Shards bring luck". Family and friends coming together on the evening before wedding and everyone smashed porcelain or stoneware, what the bride and groom should bringing good luck.
But as it is, this tradition expanded a little one and today family and friends also often throwing with paper scraps ... because it is tedious to sweep this. Often the "good friends" exaggerate it and the bridal couple needs a couple of hours to clean the stag night area, but that is not the idea behind this tradition.
